Gardens of Essex and Constable Country

5 Days – Departing Tuesday 30th August 2016. An escorted tour of glorious Gardens and Properties of Essex, with a visit to Constable Country and Wine Tasting at Bardfield Vineyard, staying at the Best Western, Marks Tey, Colchester, which is ideally located to visit these wonderful gardens and beautiful scenes of Constable Country.

The Hotel has a Brasserie Restaurant, Lounge and bar, extensive leisure club facilities including indoor pool, hair and beauty salon, tennis courts, steam room, sauna and air conditioned gym. Sadly no lift. 2 floors, you may request ground floor rooms. We have also arranged portage for luggage for people who need it.

Day 1: Tuesday – Morning departure from Pembrokeshire by Luxury air conditioned Coach with enhanced leg room, supplied by Richard Brothers of Cardigan. Pick up along the way. Arriving at Hotel late afternoon for dinner, bed & breakfast.

Day 2: Wednesday – Day of inspiration and a slower pace of life as we head into Constable Country with picturesque villages associated with the artist John Constable and National Trust Flatford Mill. This afternoon to Beth Chatto Gardens. Beth Chatto is one of the most inspiring of Gardeners and anyone who gardens in difficult conditions especially in drought areas can be uplifted by a visit here.

The Garden was created from 1960 onwards on waste ground considered unfit for farming. Inspired by her late husbands detailed knowledge of wild flowers and their habitats, resulted in a wonderful six acre garden which still evolves today.

Day 3: Thursday – Morning visit to RHS Hyde Hall Gardens. This is a real enthusiastical Garden begun in 1955 by Dick and Helen Robinson who passed the property onto the Royal Horticultural Society in 1992. Eight acres of rich diverse horticulture, pools, woodland areas, mixed borders of shrubs, roses, trees, South African plants and conifers. Afternoon to Bardfield Vineyard for Wine tasting and tour of the Vineyard.

Day 4: Friday – Morning visit to Audley End House and Gardens, owned by English Heritage, this is a splendid Jacobean Mansion set in a fine 99 acre, 18th Century park that was transformed from an earlier, formal layout by Capability Brown. A magnificent Victorian Parterre, and a restored Walled Kitchen Garden to its original 19th Century appearance.

Afternoon to the Gardens of Easton Lodge, the forgotten Gardens. Work in progress, repair and restoration is ongoing. Fantastic Italian Garden with 100ft long lily pool. Japanese Garden with a tea house by the Lake, all the work done by volunteers.

Day 5: Saturday – Return home to Pembrokeshire via The Living Rainforest, Thatcham near Newbury. Explore a rainforest without leaving the UK. The Living Rainforest is home to 700 species of plants and animals. Watch birds, butterflies and lizards roam free in our tropical glasshouse.

Pick up points: Newport, Fishguard, Wolfscastle, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Pembroke, Milton, Kilgetty, Carmarthen, Swansea and Cardiff.
